Where Do You Get Inspiration?_Craft Room Update

WHERE DO YOU GET INSPIRATION? Magazines, books, Youtube videos, different bloggers, and God's beautiful creation are all things that can inspire me. These things especially help when I'm in a creative funk, which happens way more often than I'd like. The one place that has been inspiring me the most recently, is my craft room. As it becomes more and more the way I want it, it's where I want to be, even when I have nothing, in particular in mind, to work on.
I think it's important that we make our space a place we want to be in. For me, I love things to have a place, though, being organized has always been a challenge for me. I also like my furnishing to be white. Now, that might sound boring to some, but I like how clean it makes the room look. My walls, curtains, supplies, and decorative items are where the color comes in. A big challenge I had in creating my space is the fact, that I like to see my stuff  (it's more likely to get used, that way), but I don't do well in clutter. It literally hinders my thinking and creativity. I've found that baskets are not only great for storing things, it add a nice feel to the space.
I don't want you to think you have to spend a lot of money though, on creating an inviting place for yourself. Most of the storage in my room is inexpensive. I bought the many Jetmax/Recollection cubes at Micheal's when they were on sale. For most of it I waited until I had an extra 20% or 25% off total purchase INCLUDING SALE ITEMS! Talk about a rush. Can someone say, "happy dance"? I love a deal. The large peg board is from the hardware store, and was very inexpensive (a whole lot cheaper than the set of three I bought from Micheal's).  Lastly, I try to re-purpose stuff as much as I can, but only if I can make it look nice in the space. I could go on, but that would bore you, so here's my most recent Youtube video on my craft room. It still needs a little work, but for the most part, I think most things are where I want them to stay. Hope you enjoy the tour : )

For more craft room ideas check out Pinterest and the multitude of Youtube videos. There are spaces of every size, and style. You will find many tips and ideas. So, tell me what you think and, where your inspiration comes from. It doesn't have to be craft related.

Catalog Premiere 2014

http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/lmdstampin/blog
I had so much fun at the catalog premiere in Long Beach, California. It's always nice to meet sister demonstrators. They're a crafty bunch. Lol. Don't know why I went there. Honestly they are such a joy to be around. I'm always impressed by how welcoming everyone is. I'm also always impressed by how much SU spoils us. I always get more back than what I paid for an event. I mean, really, who does that? Look at all this stuff!!!
http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/lmdstampin/blog
I have to say what impressed me most though, was seeing Shelli, the CEO!, hello, working hard handing out prizes. She wasn't hanging out somewhere backstage, waiting for her time to speak. again. She's was on the floor working like the rest of the staff. Shelli's heart and our products are two of things that keep me going on those days when I feel like I'm not cut out for this. The premiere, like convention, left me inspired and re-energized. Thank you Shelli, staff, my upline, and sister demos, for making it all worth while. And if you're reading this, and you're even thinking about becoming a demo, for goodness sake, do it now and go to Convention 2014, while it's FREE to you. I don't think that's ever happened. Join my team and receive a personal welcome gift from me.

Whole Lot of Wonderful Paper Pieced Card

I don't usually like cutting stamped images because I'm not very good at it. I have found that I actually do enjoy it, though when the pieces are simple and small. What can say...not a lot of room to mess up. Today's project has inspired me to do more paper piecing. Of course I will always be a die cutting, and punching kind of girl, but there's something to be said for paper piecing. I hope you will be inspired to get your scissors out and do some cutting. The Vivid Vases stamp is a perfect stamp for this. See two versions of today's project below.

Blessed Easter Card

Blessed Easter Watercolor Card

http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/lmdstampin/project/viewProject.soa?id=419791

The Happy Watercolor stamp set was the inspiration behind today's card. I especially love the splosh, which gives you that watercolor look. I thought the flowers on the Blessed Easter stamp set would look good layered on top of our 2013-2015 Ink Colors. This in-color set is by far my favorite. I love how they look together. If you want to see the process behind the card you can view it on Youtube, on my channel, cdliteistubing. Just click the picture to see the written details. And of course you can click shop to purchase items used.

Let Your Dreams Take Flight Birthday Card

Here's a card I made for one of my daughters. I love fancy fold cards of all kinds. They look so complicated, but they're really quite easy. The center stair step card I made only takes 2 cuts and some scoring. There are a ton of Youtube tutorials on creating them. And if you don't want to create the card base yourself there are dies, and die cutting machines that will do it for you. The possibilities are endless. Anyway, I just wanted to share it. If you would like to see a tutorial please leave a comment.

My First Mixed Media Attempt

Have you ever wanted to try a new technique or art medium, but were hesitant to use your supplies, for fear of wasting them? I have found this to be a creative inhibitor in my life. I hate to waste supplies. I know it's silly, considering they are for using. Right? And I can't take it to the grave. So I came up with a solution for myself that I hope will help free and encourage you to take chances and experiment more.

The tip: Do small scale projects, like tags, and small canvases (like the one in the picture). If you like the results you can add your tags to cards and other projects later, and display your canvas on a small easel or turn it into a magnet. If you don't like the end results...well...you've only used a small amount of product.

My first attempt at mixed media may not be the greatest, but I had fun trying something new and I didn't have to use a lot of product. The more we practice the new things we're learning the more confident we will become and possibly more willing to use our stuff. So let's go for it! Even if it's only on a small scale.

Heart Framed Rose Card

Today's project was inspired by the Heartfelt Creations catalog cover. I think it came out o.k. I learned a couple of things in the process. That's a good thing. Right? Afterall, I'm always saying this is a journey. I have to confess, though, it's a bit frustrating to spend hours on a project only to have it not come out perfect.

Anyway, what I learned is:

 1. Don't stamp on the Stampin' Up! Naturals Composition Designer Series Specialty paper unless you want a worn look, as you can see in the picture. Because the paper is embossed it doesn't hold the color. Duh! I didn't think of that when I did it. When I tried to remove it with a baby wipe and paper towel the color stayed on the part that was not shiny (embossed). On the bright side I guess it kinda works. What do you think? and

 2. I should have stamped and colored my image on the back of the vellum. Or better yet, maybe  I should have just stamped it onto Whisper White cardstock. You might be wondering why stamp on the back of the vellum.  Answer; because it will be protected from smearing once added to the card. I actually new about this technique before starting, but again, I didn't think about it until after the fact. Story of my life.

On a more positive note, I do like how the frame came out. Maybe I'll do a new, and hopefully improved version of the card. All that being said, I hope my mistakes help you avoid doing the same things when working with vellum and/or embossed papers and water based inks.

Even when we make mistakes, we can enjoy the journey, because it's an opportunity to learn. Either way we win : D

So enjoy the journey,

Lisa

Cricut Explore and My Digital Studio Glass Etching

Well, I got the Cricut Explore and My Digital Studio Glass Etching tutorial uploaded to Youtube yesterday. Had to do it in two parts, because, Movie Maker blurred the computer screen capture video, and Roxio took the audio out of the camcorder video as soon as I did anything with it. So here they are. I hope you enjoy them.

Part 1

Part 2

I'm off to the Scrapbook Expo, in Anaheim, California. Have a wonderful day.

Frustrated and Tired Crafter

Technology. Can't live with it; can't live without it. So I've been working on a video for you. It was suppose to go up today, but doesn't look like that's gonna happen. I might have to make it a two parter. I would explain, but that would require a lot of typing. Let's just say, one part of my video is computer screen capture and the other part is from the camcorder. Because of this both editing software I've used are having one problem or another. I thought I'd give Roxio a try again, because Movie Maker is blurring my computer capture video. Unfortunately, Roxio still has the same problem that made me stop using it in the first place; it removes my audio as soon as I do anything. But you know what the crazy thing is? It doesn't remove the audio from the computer screen capture part. Oy!! I don't know if that it explains it well, but I'm tired and ready to go to bed. As Anne would say, "tomorrow's another day".  And I was so excited to share my Cricut Explore & My Digital Studio_Glass etching project with you. Lord willing, I will have it up tomorrow.

On the bright side it's my favorite time of the year, and the poppies are blooming. So I thought I'd post a pic just for the heck of it.

Craftroom Revisit

Though I'd much rather be crafting and sharing with you, I've spent the past few days trying to get the new blog looking better. So much to learn; so little time. Hopefully I will have a project posted soon. Until then, today is yet another blast from the past. This is one of the videos I posted of my craftroom.

So Not, Tech Savvy

I just spent the whole day trying to make my blog look better and fix my blog header. It doesn't help that I am not tech savvy at all. What little I have learned since starting my first blog,  doesn't help me when I need to troubleshoot something like, "get rid of extra white space above and below header"!I'm not giving up though. This non-techy person will figure it out...eventually. I guess I shouldn't feel so bad though. I finally got it the size I want. So much for crafting, horseback riding, reading, cooking... You get the idea. Anyway, I just wanted to check in, just in case you stopped by. So here's another video from my Youtube channel.

Well, I'm finally getting a blog with the title and address I've been wanting, thanks to me blowing it and losing my domain name. I'm a bit sadder than I thought I would be about it, seeing as now I have start all over. On the bright side I get to use LMD Creations for my blog name and address. Now to find followers. Hehehe.

Can't wait to add new content. Let the new journey begin!!

P.S. Just in case you've stumbled across this blog before I've had a chance to really get it going, here is something I hope will interest you and bring you back; my lastest Youtube video.
